Winter 2006 Newsletter

Hello again

Doesn't time "FLY" quickly when you are having fun? It does not seem like a year since we were sat at our A.G.M. at the working man's club. OK it's not quite a year, but very nearly. Which reminds me, YOUR clubs Annual General Meeting will be held on Sunday 3rd December 2006 at Weston Ex-Service Mans Club,Weston, Bath, 7.30 for 8pm start.

Please make an effort to be there, to find out what we have done this year and what we might be doing next year. As usual all the committee posts will be up for re-election so if you want to have some say in what direction you want your club to go in come and stand for 1 of the posts or just vote for any proposals raised, we will take proposals from the floor on the night. Please find your agenda on the attached sheet. Only club members may vote.

On the subject of agendas (It's all AGM for me at the moment, I was at BRCA in Stoke 2 weeks ago and EFRA AGM in Brussels last week), then your association AGM (BMFA) is being held on the 25th November at Holiday Inn, Coventry from 1.30 onwards. The AGM is followed by the Annual Dinner at 7pm with the 2006 awards Presentation followed by DJ Dave playing from 2200 to 0100. If you need further info please contact me. Which brings me nicely onto our awards.

Nominations are now being taken for a new award. The Matchstick Award! Who has done the most embarrassing thing whilst at the field? or who's crashed the most planes? Or anything totally silly? Nominations to me stating why the person deserves this award, ASAP Please!

Do not forget the last social meeting will be held at the Braithwait pub on Thursday December 7th at 8pm. OK, that brings us up to date on future events.

Previous recent events. Back in September we had our club open day with somewhat reduced exposure to general public due to health and safety restrictions placed on us by the council. It was therefore decided to restrict invitations to BMFA licence holders only. A notice was placed on the BMFA web site waiting for entries to flood in. I had 2 emails showing interest, neither person showed up on the day. It's a shame really as it was quite a nice day. Mr Chairman brought along his gas BBQ, Andy Short brought along a box full of burgers, buns, drinks and cakes. Thanks to Mrs Short for going to the supermarket to get the food. We had a transmitter compound in place complete with the clubs frequency counter. Weather was bright and sunny and a little breezy.
The only thing lacking was.....................members.
We had lots of planes on show, Terry must have brought 16 beautiful planes down, Tony had 3 or 4 I had 5, Pete had his Big'un plus a couple more, Peter and Andy had a few too, plus one or two more members with there collections. It was a good day with everyone not on a diet eating 4 or more burgers each, didn't they Pete! more cake Terry? It was a hectic day for some, but not for everyone!
The last couple of months have been pretty poor in regards to the weather, let's hope we have some crisp, sharp clear blue skies over the winter months. I am now having a play with some electric planes. It's still a bit of a black art to me but with some help and guidance from Mr Electric aka Tony it's now making a little sense. Outrunners, Li-Po batteries, balancers and speed controllers, I now know the basics. Thanks Tony.

The difference between a 400 brushed motor with Ni-Mhd compared to an outrunner and a 3c 2200 11.1v Li-Po is like a .25 I.C. to a 40 size I.C. I could get quite used to electric.

As you can see, I am waffling on about nothing again. It is a struggle to fill a few pages without any input from other members. If you have anything going on that you want to share with us, just drop me a note and I will put it in the next newsletter. Jokes, anecdotes, funny/true stories or even anything to do with our sport/hobby will be considered.

The website construction has been a little bit slower than anticipated due to the immense amount of work our webmaster Ralph has had to get through over the last few months. Obviously paid work has to come before the "freebies". I am sure Ralph is as keen to get the website finished as we are to see it up and running.

We still have an items for sale section available if you have any surplus bits and bobs. Couple of web sites to look at http://www.rcuniverse.com/members/bulletin.cfm

New radio about to appear on the market . See www.spektrumrc.com. With the DX7 you'll be able to fly anything from micro electric helis, to big gas-powered IMAC planes without regard to frequencies and free from fear of interference. Calling this kind of thing "revolutionary" just doesn’t cut it. It is nothing less than a quantum leap in RC technology that will change how you fly forever. Never again will the availability of a frequency pin dictate when you can take off. Never again will you have to ask, "What channel are you on?" Never again will your flying experience be interrupted by model-generated RF noise, interference from commercial broadcast towers, or anyone on another RC system. This is the future in radio. Although not yet available from Futaba or JR is has to come.

Well that's about it from me. Just a final reminder club AGM SUNDAY 3rd DECEMBER 7.30, Weston Ex-Service Mans Club, Weston, Bath.

There will be our usual raffle with loads of prizes, Kits, batteries, free club membership, fuel, tools, glues, and lots more. Come along and meet the other club members. You never know you may walk off with a brand new kit for a £1 raffle ticket.

And finally If I have made mistakes in the use of the knowledge these kind people have imparted. I'll do my best to somehow blame it on them.
