Summer Newsletter 2006
Dear Club Member
Well time is certainly flying by! Well for some of us anyway.
Where are you all? We have 40 odd members in our club but probably less than 10 of you are regular fliers down at the field. OK I don't go every Tuesday, Thursday or Saturday, but I do make an effort and go at least once a week and attend our Thursday social evenings at the Braithwayte Pub (1st Thursday of every month 8pm). I know you have other commitments and families to entertain but I have probably only met about half of you.
Now here is your big chance to let me meet you and for you to meet your other 40 odd club members!
YOUR CLUB is holding a FLY IN on Saturday 9th September and we need you there to support your club on the day. The fly in is open to ALL BMFA members and is for the disciplines we promote as a club (Fixed wing, I.C., Elec, Glider, Free Flight).
So why not come down, even for an hour or so. Bring a lunchbox and have a picnic. You can even come down and have a fly!
SATURDAY 9TH SEPTEMBER 10am to 4pm BE THERE.
I have very little else to report on as I am short (as well) of material from you members to include in any newsletters. Let me have anything you think others may wish to read about and I will publish it.
Terry, our safety officer seems to bring a new model up to the field nearly every week. Some from kits, some from plans and some from that great balsa scrapyard in the sky. His latest being a large Extra 42cc petrol.
Phil, our chief instructor has now got his Boomerang Jet up together and flying very nicely, our Phil's confidence improves and nerves reduce. Pete, our Chairman is getting on very well (did I say that) with his trainers. J a 46 size with a 90 engine in. A 46 size with a 60 and tuned pipe. Our junior members are showing some of the oldies how to fly with their Hypes and Funtanas. They make it look so easy. Well done to the 3 of you Kevin, Peter and Terence.
Our club website www.lmfc.co.uk is coming along nicely under the construction of Ralph. If you have internet connection go have a look and give Ralph or myself some feedback on it's look. As always we need some content for inclusion. With the website we can host/post pictures of your models. If you have some nice pics (NO crash pictures please) email them to Ralph or myself and we will get them on the site. Include some info about the picture as well.
We also have a for sale section on the site. Have you got anything in the corner of the workshop/shed that you no longer have a use for? Let us know and we will try and sell it for you. No fees, no commission.
Planning next years holiday? How about a week or 2 in Corfu? Want to fly models when you are out there? Have a look at www.rchotel.com.
The hotel is on the east side of Corfu near Gouvia. It's on an 18acre plot of land, 2 miles from the beach. 10 rooms, restaurant, bar and swimming pool. Has it's own runway (grass) 150mx35m and a fleet of planes and helis all set up ready to go. Models include trainers, sport, gliders, fun fly, semi scale and helicopters. They also operate a flying school with lessons at competitive prices. Seems to be a nice operation. I have NO connection with RC Hotel. I just picked up 1 of their leaflets from Woodspring Show.
Your club has also purchased a S.M. Products frequency scanner to monitor frequencies in use both at the field and up to 1000 yards away. So if you experience any "glitches" we can have a look and see if anyone else is on your frequency within a good ½ mile radius. With all these fun fly and park fliers around you never know where they are. A quick glance at the scanner pre flight will tell you (at that point in time) if anyone else is interfering with your frequency.
OK, that's all I have for now.
I hope to see YOU at your clubs FLY IN on the 9th September (Saturday) OR before!
Fly safe and ENJOY!
Dennis
Club Sec/tres.
