Spring Newsletter May 2006
Dear Member
Firstly a thank you from the club committee for all the members who renewed their 2006 membership so promptly and a BIG WELCOME to our new members Stanley Pearce, Martin Hounsell, Keith Blake, George Bailey, John Ransford and Lee McDonald. I look forward to seeing you all, flying at the field.
Now the better weather is with us we can look forward to some good flying on Saturdays and don't forget on those warm summer evenings (Tuesdays and Thursdays) meetings from about 5pm till 8pm.
I have been asked by several members to convey a big hearty THANK YOU to the following people for the time given at the field in training "us novices to fly", they are Terry, Tim, Pete, Phil and Alex. The people undergoing tuition by these very patient people are! John Pascoe, Ralph Coombes and Kevin Flew (one of our junior members).
Congratulations are due to one of our junior members for passing the LMFC club test recently. Well done to Peter Short. A personal thanks from father Andy to Tim and Terry for helping Peter to reach this stage with his flying. Keep working at it and the BMFA A test should be coming soon.
Another request! A senior member of the club (senior in both years and age) has requested that as well as having a frequency peg to fix to the board we should all wear name badges on our lapels. We ALL know who he is, but he can't remember who we are! What do you think?
For those members who attended the AGM back in December may remember that Dave Squance suggested the club held on open day/fly in during the summer. The suggestion was met with lots of support and we have now come up with a date. PLEASE PUT IT IN YOUR DIARY, PROVISIONAL DATE FOR CLUB OPEN DAY/FLY IN IS SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 9th 2006.
It is the club's intention to invite other local clubs and some "Celebrity" pilots to our field for the day.
We would hope to put on refreshments and maybe a couple of trade stands. This will be our chance to show other clubs what we do and a chance to meet other people with the same interests.
If you have any ideas or suggestions to whom we invite, what we do on the day, or anything constructive, please let me know as soon as possible as we need to plan well ahead.
It was also suggested and approved that we had a club "DAY OUT" at either a Model Show or Flying Display. As Model Expo at the NEC has been cancelled this now leaves us a bit short on ideas.
Some ideas I have are below. If you have any suggestions let me know.
Woodspring 1st and 2nd July, LMA at Cosford 15th and 16th July, Catton Hall 19th and 20th August,
Woodspring ELECTRIC show Sunday 20th August, Much Markle 2nd and 3rd September,
It is the club's intention to provide a mini bus and entrance tickets (Members Only) FREE to anyone wishing to go. Places are limited to 17 so it has to be first come etc. etc. So let me know if you want a "Freebie" trip and WHERE YOU want to go.
The webmaster (Ralph) has now managed to gain access to the club website and it is now under construction. For those of you with t'internet access the web site address is www.lmfc.co.uk - For those of you without t'internet access the site address is the same! But don't worry you will still get club newsletters by snail mail (post). AGAIN, if you want to add any content to the website either written, pictures, news items or funny stories let Ralph or myself know.

I NEED HELP
I still need input from you to help me fill this newsletter. YOUR newsletter! So a few questions, answers on the back of a £10 note or email or snail mail.
What are you building over the winter period?
Are you rebuilding anything? Any mods or updates?
Have you got any tips or info for "us newbies"
I would like to know how to make a smoke system. How do I do it? What do I need? What is the smoke fluid made from? Transmission fluid and oil?
If anyone else has any specific questions, let me know and I will ask the members.
I was surprised at the level of response. The edited versions are shown below
NIL, NOWT, NOTHING, ZERO, ZILCH !
I STILL NEED SOME CONTRIBUTIONS or the next newsletter will be written on the back of the stamp!
Members and their planes.
This month is Terence Jefferies (sorry, but he's my grandson and lack of contributors does not give me much choice). I could have featured Terry Hall but that will fill an encyclopedia size newsletter. Back to Terence. 14 years old, started flying a very old rudder and elevator only trainer a couple of years ago on the odd weekend. Joined LMFC about 18 months ago and flew a Spacewalker 2 which I brought back from USA. This is still the only plane he has crashed in 2 years (that's done it!). From that he moved on to a Wot 4 which he still "Tears up the sky" with and passed his BMFA A test with last year. He since bought himself a Cessna 182 which he will only fly when it's calm (not that often). He wants to take his B test this year. Full time ambition is to be a commercial airline pilot.
That's all for this newsletter. Don't forget the "I need help" request!
Over and out.
Dennis
