January 2008 Newsletter

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO YOU ALL
Dear Member

May I and the rest of your committee, wish you a Happy, Healthy and prosperous New Year. This is just a quick reminder to advise you that your membership and B.M.F.A insurance is now due for renewal. Please find a membership application enclosed with this newsletter. Please fill in the form and return with a cheque by the end of January. Any applications not received by then will be deemed to have lapsed. At your clubs AGM held in December it was decided to limit the club membership level to 45 members, as we are having quite a few new applications for membership from prospective new members. It is in your interest to renew by the end of January or you may find the club has reached it's maximum level. (The committee reserved the right to inflate the number of members should exceptional circumstances arise). If you have already sent your subs THANK YOU and please ignore this request for monies.

As you are aware from your last newsletter your club has purchased 3 x J. Perkins THRUSH electric powered gliders. These gliders have now all been built by Terry Hall with assistance from Glyn and Kevin. A BIG THANK YOU to you all. These gliders will be kept by Tony Rogers as he lives closest to the field. If you meet the rules of use (permitted to fly solo) then just give Tony a call and arrange to collect at a mutually convenient time. Tony can be contacted on (see hard copy sent via post for phone number).
Just to remind you anyone who is cleared to fly solo can use the gliders. Users must provide their own crystal and battery charger (NiMh) with auto cut out The gliders can be used individually or for competitions. The gliders are not high performance aeroplane - please fly them carefully. If a glider is damaged, the pilot does NOT have to pay for repair or replacement. If a glider is damaged, see if you or another skilled modeller can repair it. It would be appreciated.

Have fun!

Wingspan: 63ins (1.6m), Wing area: (25.30 sq.dm), Weight: approx. 1.50lb (670g), Length: 37.9ins (96.3cm). This is a smart new electric glider that offers outstanding features such as an all moulded glass fibre fuselage with tinted canopy and built up wings. The model has inset ailerons with 2 micro servos for aileron control and a further two micro servos for rudder and elevator control. Included and pre fitted is a powerful C2815/20 brushless outrunner motor with a BM-18amp speed controller and a fitted folding prop with aluminium spinner.

John Pascoe was presented with The Clubman's Award. John has been a member of LMFC for a couple of years now and has been a regular flyer on Saturday mornings. I am sure John won't mind me saying that he has worn out 3 instructors before being able to fly solo at the end of last year. I always knew you could do it John. WELL DONE!

The Matchstick Award was earned by Terry Hall for building the most planes from matchsticks. The matchsticks were donated by HIMSELF from previous models. You can guess why they became matchsticks I am sure! The club website (www.lmfc.co.uk for those with t'internet access) had over 4000 visitors last year. I must admit, not a lot changes on there that often. I do really struggle to find content to put on there that would be unique to our club. OK, with lots of time (if only) I could trawl through other websites and copy some content for our site, but I would really like some items that relates to OUR club. In the last 2 years I have only had 3 items from club members (thanks to them again) for publication. Can any more of you put pen to paper, fingers to keys and give me some more local news, events, hints, tips, or ideas?

The new 2.4ghz frequency is becoming quite popular with several members now using the frequency. Some have Spektrum sets and some have Futaba sets or Futaba modules. I don't know of any problems arising with the use of this new frequency with club members. Just to remind you (again, sorry) that if you are using 2.4, please place a black peg on the board and a black flag on your transmitter. Some of you may be aware that we have had several "problems" with the kite flyers using our field. Your Chairman spoke to B.A.N.E.S. council and suggested a meeting between the 3 parties (BANES , Kite flyers and us). The kite flyers have declined from attending a meeting. If you have any "incidents" with the kite flyers, let Pete know, (time, date, numbers etc.).

Finally, If you could also remember not to fly over our neighbours land/houses on both sides of the field. Well that's it from me for now. Enjoy your flying and fly safely.

Dennis LMFC SECRETARY/TREASURER.
