Autumn 2008 Newsletter

Dear Club Members
It is some time I must admit since you had your last newsletter, for that I apologise. This is mainly due to my other commitments, which also reflects the limited Saturday mornings and summer evenings I have managed to visit the field. I have managed to make most of the club social meetings this year, which have really been quite poorly attended. In fact, on one occasion I attended with one other member and that was it, two of us! On the rare weekends when I did have time to come down to the field on a Saturday the weather was mostly wet, or windy, or both. So not a good flying year for me and not a lot better for you guys either based on the weather we had on the rest of the weekends. Lets look forward to a nice dry, calm winter. There can be some beautiful clear blue skies and little wind over the next few months. Fingers crossed!

Talking about the future, it is your clubs A.G.M. in December. Why not come down and meet some of your other club members, have a drink (non alcoholic!) and a chat. If you have any items you want to bring up at the meeting, drop me a note and I will put it on the agenda. We are always looking for ideas to improve the club. If you have a spare plane or bit of kit gathering dust in the shed, why not bring that down too and put it into a table top sale? If you fancy becoming a committee member, all the positions are up for re election. The A.G.M. will be held on Sunday 7th December 7.30pm for 8 pm start (usually finishes about 9.30pm) so not too late a night. A well as the meeting we will hold our trophy presentations and club raffle. Some great prizes are up for grabs. The location is Weston Ex-Service Mans Club, Bath. I have enclosed a draft Agenda, but don't worry if you want to add an item to it, I will amend it for the meeting.

NEWS

The club has recently purchased a trainer for any new or inexperienced member to use. The trainer is I.C. powered Ripmax Rising Star with a 40size engine and Futaba 2.4ghz radio equipment. So a nice first plane to learn to fly with, under tuition from one of our club instructors using a buddy lead. The reason for the purchase was due to several new club members arriving at the field with some very nice models or some unsuitable for inexperienced pilots. Rather than the new member learning to fly with an unsuitable piece of kit or risking crashing the nice new model on the first outing, we have purchased a suitable one from club funds. (You can crash ours instead! NO, not really). With a suitable model and equipment coupled with a instructor and buddy lead, you will gain a lot of experience and confidence before attempting to fly your own treasured, first model plane.

MOAN

As with every newsletter previously distributed, I ask for any contributions that you may wish to submit for publication. In the 2 years I have been secretary I have had just 2 articles sent to me. Both were published. The lack of contributions makes my job very difficult and newsletters and website updates rather less than I would like. I am not a journalist or author, I just like model planes. So, come on guys send me anything! Even an odd joke would fill a couple of lines! (keep 'em clean please).

Here's a starter:

Following the problems in the sub-prime lending market in America and the run on Northern Rock in the UK, uncertainty has now hit Japan.
In the last 7 days Origami Bank has folded, Sumo Bank has gone belly up and Bonsai Bank announced plans to cut some of it's branches.
Yesterday, it was announced that Karaoke Bank is up for sale and will likely go for a song, while today shares in Kamikaze Bank were suspended after they nose-dived.
While Samurai Bank is soldiering on following sharp cutbacks, Ninja Bank is reported to have taken a hit, but they remain in the black.
Furthermore, 500 staff at Karate Bank got the chop and analysts report that there is something fishy going on at Sushi Bank where it is feared that staff may get a raw deal.

Now, if that did not appeal to you. YOU KNOW WHAT TO DO, SEND ME SOMETHING! Sadly that's all I have to say at this point in time. I look forward to seeing you all either down at the field of at our clubs A.G.M. in December.

Regards

Dennis Paul
